Some Boys, by Patty Blount, is an important book about the effects of rape and recovery. It shows how Grace, a young high school girl survives being raped by Zac, one of the most popular boys on the school’s lacrosse team. She must go to school and see Zac who is defended by the people in the school. All around people are asking questions and calling Grace names. She is bullied. Her friends turn away from her because they believe she is crying wolf. She suffers fear, pain and humiliation, first at the hands of Zac the accused rapist then at the hands of those close to her. Grace however, learns to move on and develops a new friendship with Ian who is Zac’s best friend. Ian remains her friend through it all. In the novel, the author educates the readers to change the way they think and talk about rape.
