Shem was
born with a defective foot that makes it hard for
him to be accepted in his town. He gets involved in
a shady deal with the bank and is forced to leave
town. Determined to prove himself to be a man of
worth, Shem works hard at his job as a clerk in
Detroit. He travels North to work for a fur trading
company but is left alone at the company's cabin by
the other men who feel that Shem's foot will make
it impossible to travel with them. Shem faces the
prospect of surviving winter alone in the cabin.
Will Shem be able to make it through the winter?
