River dreams of playing in the WNBA, just like her idol, Emily Hargraves.  She sees her dream coming closer to reality when Coach Glover announces tryouts for a 6th grade girls' basketball team to compete in the Oregon Coast Tournament.  The girl selected as MVP of the tournament will get to attend Emily Hargraves' summer basketball camp for free.  River is sure she'll make the team and win the spot at the basketball camp.  Despite her best efforts, River is judged not competitive enough for the "A" team and is placed on the "B" team.  The rejects of the "B" team are given the outdoors court to practice on and a mother who knows nothing about basketball to coach them.  Soon the "B" team is discouraged, especially having to practice in the rain without enough teammates.  When their coach quits, River takes matters into her own hands, changing the "B" team into the "Hoop Girlz", whose motto is to have fun.  Against all odds, including using her brother as their coach, adding a fourth grader to the team and practicing on a flood outdoor court, the team faces the "A" team in the tournament.  Who wins the tournament?  Who becomes MVP?  Read Hoop Girlz by Lucy Jane Bledsoe for the great court action and suspense.  (New Hampshire Great Stone Face Committee)
