It was the hat.  For some reason, in his drunken state, Bruce fixated on Raymond’s hat.  When he tried to grab it off Ray’s head Bruce caused Ray to lose control of the car and they hit a tree.  Ed and Elaine were thrown free.  Raymond died instantly and Bruce was severely injured.  Future gold medallist Bruce would never run again.  Bruce tries to take the blame but Ray’s father and brother don't want to hear about that night.  But someone else does.  Someone who holds them all accountable.  Rev. Dunn tells Bruce to repent, but Rev. Dunn was killed in a plane crash two years before. Repent or die.  The first shall die by fire, the second by water, and the third by earth.  Who knows and is making them pay?  (Mary Huebscher, Librarian, Holy Cross of San Antonio, San Antonio, TX  marwood45@hotmail.com)
