Not everyone can say they live in the largest privately owned house in the United States. Serafina has lived in the basement of the Biltmore estate since she can remember, with her father. Serafina is the CRC, chief rat catcher, a name she has given herself. She prowls the mansion at night ridding the home of rodents. As she is hunting one night, she hears a commotion and discovers a child visiting the mansion has disappeared. Soon more children are missing and Serafina has seen the culprit, a man wearing a black cloak. Serafina befriends Braden, the nephew of the Biltmore's and decides to team up with him to solve the mysterious disappearances.  (Pennsylvania Young Reader’s Choice Award 2017-2018)
