| In
World War II, children of London were shipped to homes in the country so
they could escape the bombing of London. In "Carrie's War", we relive the
time Carrie spent in the country with her brother as a border to a stingy
shopkeeper. The names are delightful -- there's a rich old woman named
Mrs. Gotobed -- there's a smart boy, Albert Sandwich, who boards with a
kind housekeeper, Hepzibah (who some think is a witch because she uses
herbs and teas to cure illnesses). There's a missing will, a skull with
with a curse on it, and some say a haunted valley. Carrie is now a mother
and their children find the strength to go on to overcome the fear that
Carrie has brought back with her as she revisits the site of her World
War II stay. |
