Banks, Lynn Reid
THE MYSTERY OF THE CUPBOARD
New York : Morrow Junior Books, 1993.
IL 3-6 RL 6.1 .
ISBN 0380720132

If you’ve read the Indian in the Cupboard and the other Indian books by Lynn Reid Banks, this one is a true mystery. Omri investigates the history behind the magical cupboard and his ancestors, by using clues found beneath an old thatch roof in England. He reads an old diary which takes us back to post-WWI England where much of the story takes place. This is the book that finally explains where the cupboard came from and proves that Omri and his friend Patrick aren’t the only ones to witness the cupboard’s magic. (Because the story is very concerned with the life of Omri's Great Aunt Jessica Charlotte, I think this book will be particularly appealing to girls.)
