Anne
Elliott is haunted with regret by a choice she made eight years ago to
break off her engagement to Frederick Wentworth. Even though she
was very much in love with him, her family and friends thought he wasn’t
of the proper social and economic class. Now he is back in town as
Captain Wentworth, much wealthier, and looking for a wife. Anne realizes
she still loves him, but at her age, she is considered to have lost her
“bloom”. In addition, ironically, due to her father’s extravagance,
her family is now in poor financial health. Does Captain Wentworth
still love her? Can he get over the rejection and hurt from their
