Booktalk #1

Arlo isn’t so sure about moving to Pine Mountain, Colorado, not that he has a choice in the matter.  His dad is living out of the country to stay out of trouble, and his mom needed a fresh start.  From the moment they pull up to his uncle’s house, Arlo senses that something is different here.  When he meets new friends at school who invite him to join the Rangers, Arlo is excited for the opportunity to have something to do.  However, he soon realizes that there is more to the neighboring Long Woods and the Rangers than what meets the eye.  If you like magic and adventures, read Arlo Finch in Valley of Fire. Booktalk #2

“During his brief time in Pine Mountain, he had encountered fantastical creatures and mystical powers. He had nearly been killed. But without even noticing it, he had also made two close friends. That was as unexpected as anything.”

Meet Arlo, a 6th grader, who has just moved to the small remote town of Pine Mountain with his mom and sister Jaycee. Immediately Arlo knows things are different when he meets a ghost dog. Then he learns about the mysterious Lost Woods that surround them when he experiences an attack from a different realm. Arlo joins the Rangers, the local scouting/camping group which allows Arlo to make new friends. These new friends know all about the Lost Woods and are willing to help Arlo not only figure things out, but also help him fight this unknown terror. This is the first in a gripping new fantasy series. (Book Talk by Sherri Ashlock, Nelsen Middle School) (Washington Evergreen Book Award nominee 2021)
