"I
can't hide you any longer." The words that Mama had feared would
come. Since the Germans had occupied Amsterdam, Izaak and his mother
were hidden by a kind woman who had taken them in when the Jews were rounded
up. But now it was becoming too dangerous. So Mama arranged
for Izaak to be taken north to a farm. There he would be passed off
as a visiting relative of the farmers and he would be safe. Although
he didn't want to leave his mother, Izaak knew that he must go. Life
on the farm was better than life in hiding. He was able to play outdoors.
He was able to go to school. He made friends with the neighbors.
And best of all, he got to take care of a horse. But then the Germans
arrive at the farm. What will happen to Izaak and the kind family
who has offered him shelter? |
