The
three investigators are 3 boys who live in a small city in southern California.
None of the boys are old enough to drive, but they won the use of an automobile
complete with chauffeur in a contest. And the car is a gold plated Rolls
Royce! The investigators headquarters is in a converted mobile home trailer
in a junkyard owned by one of the boys’ parents. The trailer has a small
office in it, a lab, a dark room, and many pieces of equipment rebuilt
from junk. The headquarters can be entered by secret passageways. In this
particular story the boys receive a letter from Alfred Hitchcock. Apparently
Professor Yarborough was examining a 3000-year-old Egyptian mummy, when
he thought he heard the mummy whisper to him. Not understanding the mummy’s
language, he ran to get his friend Professor Freeman. But Professor Freeman
didn’t believe him. In fact, he thought Professor Yarborough was crazy!
Here’s Professor Yarborough talking to his butler Wilkins: (Read some of
pages 23-24).(Odile Heisel. oheisel@pen.k12.va.us,
