This
is the story of a poor sharecropper and his family. The family dog gets
shot when the father is arrested for stealing ham. The father is sent off
to work camp and the son starts out on treks looking for him. He doesn't
find him but runs in to a teacher who befriends him and teaches him to
read. When the father returns maimed from a quarry accident, there is some
hope but he soon dies. Through it all, the boy has a faithful friend in
his dog Sounder. |
