She remembers belonging to someone.  Having a home.  But that is in the past.  Now she is alone and needs to figure out how to survive in this forest.  Then she hears the slow, sorrowful song in the distance.  She knows she probably should get near the sound but it is so sad, she must.  She is shocked to find an old bloodhound chained to a delapitated cabin.  Why would anyone want to chain up a dog like that.  She decides to try to cheer up the dog.  For his part, the dog had never had a friend.  Or anyone that cared about him.  The man that lives here, the one that chained him up, is brutal and has hurt him on more than one occasion.  But now the bloodhound has a friend and encourages the little cat to stay under the cabin and out of the way of the bad man.  She, and her soon to be born kittens, must stay in the Underneath.
