Ill Children Reading

  • Mind's Eye by Paul Fleischman. A paralyzed teen in a rehab facility with mostly senior citizens is pushed to read aloud from an old travel guide book to an older woman -- it is the older woman's means of escape from reality.  (The older woman's goal is to get the depressed and unimaginative teen hooked on the game of reading and imagining travels as well.)

  • ZINK - Cherie Bennett (1998) has exactly what you are looking for, a girl who is battling a chronic illness who takes solace in books and books on tape.
