Frogs

  • Bartleby of the Great MIssissippi is a wonderful chapter book to read aloud to second grade.  It is the story of a pet turtle let loose and his struggles and adventures of surviving in the wild.
  • Bartleby of the Mighty Mississippi by Phyllis Shalant.  Bartleby is a turtle and the book also has frogs, other turtles, birds, and a crocodile in it.  Very cute, light-hearted reading!
  • Hit: Frog/Toad/Turtle 2nd Grade Read A Louds
  • Jimmy, the Pickpocket of the palace
  • Roald Dahl's Esio Trot
  • Some Frog by Eve Bunting
  • The Frog and Toad books by Lobel are the obvious.
  • The Prince of the Pond : otherwise known as The Fawg Pin written by Donna Jo Napoli    (1994)
  • Toad for Tuesday by Erikson.
  • Wind in the Willows (if it's a chapter book).  Most books with frogs and Toads are picture books or I Can Read books - Frog and Toad comes to mind.
