Books to be read outside

  • Bubble Magic --Mercer Mayer and we blow bubbles afterward.
  • Could It Be (a Bank street Ready to Read) - Oppenheim
  • Crinkleroot's Guide to Walking in Wild Places - Arnosky
  • Dreams - ? In it children look at the clouds and see animals and imaginary objects in the shapes of the clouds.
  • I Went Walking (and what did I see.....looking at me)  - Williams
  • Mud Mary Lynn Ray (if you dare to do an activity with mud...)
  • Planting a Rainbow, Lois Ehlert. Have students locate various colors outdoors.  A variation is to give out colored paper & have students locate (in situ) those colors in nature.
  • Robert Blake's "The Perfect Spot".
  • The Listening Walk - Showers
  • Turtle splash! : countdown at the pond. Falwell, Cathryn. - Greenwillow Books, New York : c2001.  You don't necessarily have to read it at the pond either. There is a great activity at the end in which the children do simple leaf prints. There is also a section that describes the animals that might be seen.
  • What Makes a Shadow--Clyde Robert Bulla.
