Avi, _Lord Kirkle's
Money_ by Avi. The book is the second in a triology that is called _Beyond
the Western Sea_. I've read the _The Escape from Home_ (1st in the triology).
In the first the stage is set for Maura O'Connell and her brother Patrick
to leave Ireland to join their father in America. The second book
recounts their passage to America and their settling in Lowell, MA. Set
in the mid-1850's the books touch on the issue of the Irish and the potato
famine as well as the situtation of the second son of an English
nobleman. Both books are long, so for future reference, they might make
good summer reading.
