researched and compelling historical fiction. A number of them involve
the kind of adventure you've described. Also, by the same author, adventure
survival tales with both female and male protagonists: "Survival!"

measures in this novel and the sequels.

alone on the plane when the pilot suddenly dies. Crash landing on an island,
they must try to get along and survive.

Thesman, Jean. When the
Road Ends (1992) Sent to spend the summer in the country, three foster
children and an older woman recovering from a serious accident are abandoned
by their slovenly caretaker and must try to survive on their own. Has a
female narrator, Mary. Horn Book says it "[employs] some of the elements
of a survival story."
