- Great Brain by Fitzgerald. More a fifth grade reading level
but fills the bill. Perhaps it could be read aloud for general
idea.
- Grandpa: a young man grown old by Harriet Langsam Sobol. NY:
Coward, McCann & Geoghegan, 1980. 0-698-20508-1 A young woman
and her grandfather talk about their lives. He was born in l901 in
eastern Europe and immigrated to America. Photographs are by
Patricia Agre.
- " In Care of Cassie Tucker" that takes place in 1899. While
the book would be too advanced for second or third graders to read
on their own there is one chapter where the family predicts what
chnges would take place in the next century. I think children
would enjoy this chapter as a read aloud as many of the
predictions came true. They might want to make predictions for the
next century themselves.
- TURN OF THE CENTURY, by Ellen Jackson, Charlesbridge, 1998
isbn: 0-88106-369-X. It's actually a "centuries book", but starts
out at the year 1000 and shows what life is like for children in
that year, then does the same for each century.
