• Alice's  Adventures in Wonderland has a wonderful John Tenniel illustration of the caterpillar, on top of a mushroom, talking sternly to Alice and smoking a giant hookah.
• Anastasia Krupnik -- where Dr. Krupnik smokes his pipe
• Ben's Trumpet by Rachel Isadora (1979) shows a piano player with a cigar between his teeth, and Papa and his friends smoking (and playing cards and drinking with their hats on in the house!) in one of the scenes that have been objected to by Tom Feelings and others.
• Building an Igloo, illustrated with photographs by Ulli Steltzer
• Curious George, in _Curious George_, smokes a pipe after dinner
• Daddy Sleeps -- The little boy is always looking on as Daddy does whatever it is he does. One is Daddy smokes with an illustration which shows huge billows of smoke coming out of his nose as he smokes a cigarette.
• Eloise's mother smokes.
• Frosty the Snowman also show Frosty with a pipe.
• George Appleton by Mary Chalmers (1957) - father smoking a pipe
• Granny the Pag by Bawden -- on the HC edition, Granny is shown smoking on the cover art.
• Great Wheel by Robert Lawson  - man w/ pipe in at least one internal illustration and back cover of dj
• Heckedy Peg by the Woods.  The witch smokes a pipe.
• Julian books, by Ann Cameron
• Junie B. Jones references to smoking.
• Max books by Maira Kalman depict characters with cigars and pipes {'Max Makes a Million,' 'Ooh-La-La (Max in Love),' and 'Max in Hollywood, Baby'} . . .
• Miss Nelson Is Missing by Allard -- Detective Smogg and his pipe
• Moon Jumpers also has a pipe-smoking father.
• Mother Goose (1957) - Old King Cole w/ pipe; also a man with a pipe over the rhyme "If wishes were horses"
• Old Mother Hubbard show the dog smoking a pipe.
• Quiet Noisy Book by Margaret Wise Brown (1950 - Weisgand illus) - man with pipe "thinking"
• Ramon and her Father by Cleary. -- Ramona worries about her father's smoking
• Rotten Ralph has Ralph using the father's pipe as a bubble-pipe.
• Self-Portrait by Trina Schart Hyman (Addison-Wesley, 1981) shows the artist on the cover, cigarette in one hand and paint brush in the other.
• Smoke Screen by Amy Goldman Koss published in 2000.
• Tale of Benjamin Bunny, by Beatrix Potter -- the bunny's father comes along smoking a pipe of rabbit tobacco.
• The Mole Family's Christmas" by the Hobans, Harley is smoking a pipe in two of the illustrations. Merle

• The Witches, byt Dahl -- the grandmother smokes long cigars.
• Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn,
• 'Twas the Night Before Christmas- "the stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth , and the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath."
• We Help Daddy illustrated by Eloise Wilkins shows the children helping and in the background the dad is clipping the hedge and smoking a pipe.
• Wind in the Willows animals have the odd puff or two.
