This book is The Wreckers by Iain Lawrence. It was published by Delacorte Press in 1998. The book is about a child named John going to sea with his father. When they went out ot sea, they got slammed by a bad storm. During the storm, John's father told John to go down below deck but he didn't. THen they neared land and they ran into some very dangerous rocks. Now the storm is over and John is the only survivor.
