Standing in the Light is a book about a young 13 year old girl named Catherine Carey Logan who was growing up in the 1700's. In 1763, Catherine and her brother Thomas are captured by Indians of the Lenape Tribe in Delaware Valley, Pennsylvania.
When they get to the Indian Village, Catherine and her brother are separated. That makes Catherine so MAD!!!! Catherine keeps on having dreams about her brother. Finally, she goes to Snow Hunter, an English speaking Indian, and tells him of her dreams about her brother. Snow Hunter says that they can go see him tomorrow in the village over the hill. Finally, they are reunited again.
In the village, Catherine and Thomas live with White Owl and Little Cloud. They keep calling Catherine "Chilele" (Cha-Lee-Lee). Again, Catherine goes to Snow Hunter and asks why they keep calling her that. He says that White Owl had another daughter whose name was Chilele, but she died of measles.
Will Catherine ever get home? Safely? Read Standing in the Light to find out.
