The book I read was The House on Mango Street. The author is Sandra Cisneros. This book was published by Random House in 1984. The main character in this book is Esperanza. As a girl, Esperanza's family moved many times. When she was about 11 years old, her family moved into a house on Mango Street. Esperanza was ashamed of the house she lived in and the people that lived on Mango Street. In this book, Esperanza tells about all the different experiences, meeting new friends, going to a new school, and seeing the people she loved get hurt. In one chapter of the book, Esperanza's friend Sally shares with her a time when her father hurt her. Will Esperanza learn to love living on Mango Street or will she move away?
